As a dancer, I learned this truth: there are no mistakes—only invitations to pivot, flow, and create something beautiful.

I was on the biggest stage of my life, a sword balanced on my head, my body moving like a prayer, like an offering, like something ancient remembering itself through me. The wind was strong, insistent—like an ancestor with a message.

And then—whoosh.

The sword went flying.

For a split second, my stomach twisted. That wasn’t supposed to happen. That was the moment I could have frozen, let shame swallow me whole, let the mistake define me.

But I remembered my teacher’s words: If something happens, have fun with it.

So I did. I spanked that sword, wagged my finger at it for being naughty, and the entire audience roared with laughter. They weren’t waiting for perfection—they were waiting to feel something. And in that moment, they felt me.

When I got off stage, I braced myself for embarrassment, but instead, people came up to me beaming. They told me that moment was one of their favorites. Not the parts I had rehearsed, not the perfect execution—but the realness, the improvisation, the way I danced with what was given.

And isn’t that what life asks of us?

The wind will always come. Plans will unravel. The things we thought we had carefully balanced will sometimes fall. But what if these aren’t failures? What if they are invitations?

Like when money got tight and I had to start making food for my dog—only to realize she was healthier, stronger, climbing onto furniture she hadn’t touched in years. What felt like a setback was actually a blessing waiting to reveal itself.

Like every time I’ve trusted that my Higher Power, my Spirit, my Ancestors, my Orisa had something greater in store than what I had envisioned.

Life is an improv moment. A dance between you and the unseen forces guiding you.

So when the wind knocks your sword off your head—don’t shrink. Don’t crumble.
